Byrne Urban Scholars Announces Name Change to Denver Urban Scholars

November 12th, 2012

Name change better reflects communities served by the Denver-based public charity

Announced today, Byrne Urban Scholars has changed its name to Denver Urban Scholars. The new name better reflects the organization’s long-standing commitment to serving the Denver community as a public charity with diverse programming.

“While the name of our organization may be new, our mission remains the same – to build the relationships necessary to help students succeed in school and realize their true potential,” stated Patrick Byrne, Executive Director of Denver Urban Scholars. “Since 1995, we have together changed lives, created new opportunities, and inspired our young people to reach for their dreams. Looking to the future, we usher in a new era for our community of students, mentors, families and staff, as we transition from the vision of one family to a true public charity.”

Denver Urban Scholars will continue to maintain a relationship with its founder, the Byrne Family Foundation. As an element of this ongoing relationship, the Byrne Family will provide 100% of overhead costs for the organization, allowing for additional funding from the private, public and foundation sectors to directly support program costs and growth.

Currently, Denver Urban Scholars operates three programs: Stepping Stones for middle school students; Milestones for high school students; and Capstones, a pilot program launched in 2012, serving students through their first two years of higher education. Denver Urban Scholars will continue to enhance its programming based on feedback from those served and the communities impacted by these programs, furthering their holistic approach to academic achievement.
