About Us

Denver Urban Scholars is a nonprofit organization that partners with high poverty, high performing schools to unlock the potential of students facing added challenges by creating individual pathways to career and college. Denver Urban Scholars is a coordinated, integrated approach that seamlessly combines mentoring, case management, academic support, financial assistance and more into a wrap-around network of support for every Scholar. Many Scholars are enrolled from middle school through three years post-graduation, creating a long-term relationship with mentors and staff.

We do this because:

  • One student drops out of high school every 26 seconds in America
  • Only 67% of Denver students graduate high school
  • Colorado ranks 49th out of 50 states in percentage of teen dropouts
  • Early intervention has proven to decrease the likelihood a child will drop out of school

Since our founding in 1995, Denver Urban Scholars has worked to change these statistics, helping young people through our Stepping Stones, Milestones, and Capstones programs.

And our programs work. For the 2015/2016 school year:

  • 95% of students will progress to the next grade level on time
  • 76% of seniors graduated on time, but 100% of the remaining
students are persisting and are expected to graduate in 2017
  • Of the 17 who graduated, 16 (94%) were accepted into college
and 15 (88%) report that they will attend
  • Of the 28 Capstone (or post-secondary) students enrolled in
school in fall 2015, 23 report that they will enroll in the fall of
    2016 (82%); of the 28 Capstone (or post-secondary) students
enrolled in school fall 2015, 21 enrolled in spring 2016 (75%)
