Record High Enrollment for Denver Urban Scholars
By Kathryn Miller, Program Director
Last week, Denver Urban Scholars held an enrollment event at KIPP Montbello College Prep (KMCP). The entire program staff helped with this enrollment effort in one way or another, whether handling outreach, making rounds of phone calls to over 60 families who had expressed interest, or handling other details. Meanwhile, staff members were also running around collecting surveys, doing even more outreach at other schools, and supporting one another to make sure everyone could get done what they needed to do. What a crazy time of year!
Here’s the amazing part: during the enrollment at KMCP we collected a total of 21 completed applications, and 6 applications from students/parents whose other half couldn’t attend. We additionally heard from another 5 families (6 students) who couldn’t attend but asked that we leave application packets for them in the school office. All in all, that’s 30-35 students who we’ll be able to enroll as a result of this group effort. THAT IS THE LARGEST ENROLLMENT WE’VE EVER DONE!
If you’ve ever helped with a Denver Urban Scholars enrollment, you know how much effort it takes to just get ONE student into the program. The fact that we did this as a team astounds me. This team is amazing and I’m so proud to work with such a dedicated group! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
